3D printing from home is something I only recently started, but I tell you, that machine barely gets a rest. We've printed everything from wall brackets to drain plugs to custom game cases. As much as I love Shapeways, there is something about being able to print what you want when you want it and at a fraction of the cost of getting it from Shapeways with no added shipping. The biggest drawback is we can only print in one material with our printer, and that is PLA which is a type of biodegradable plastic.
Here are a few of the things I've 3D printed from home.
Cookie cutters
Lithophanes
And here is a LED diffuser that Brian printed while playing with his code for a fairy light for me. :)
This is just a couple examples of things we've made. What is cool is I can now 3D print anything that I have already made for IMVU whenever I want. I've already received a few requests for my skeeball game. By making a few adjustments to the model I could even make it so the balls roll through the game and back to the starting port.
